The Caleb Thorburn Foundation Incorporated has been established in memory of our son Caleb. Our 18 month old son suffered the ultimate consequence from meningococcal strain B disease and died within 17 hours from onset of symptoms. The devastation this disease continues to cause is frightening.
The vaccination for meningococcal strain C has had considerable impact on reducing the carriage and infection rates of this strain. Our foundation seeks to expose the advantage to all Australians in achieving this vaccination, even if they don’t fall within the high risk categories. Ultimately the more Australians that have coverage the less likely this disease will continue to be transmitted.
Meningococcal strain B remains unprotected and it is the priority of The Caleb Thorburn Foundation Inc to assist in the research and development of an immunization to continue our endeavours of eradicating or indeed reducing the disease within Australia.
‘Breaking the strain – Research for a cure’
Education of the disease has improved both within the general community and the medical profession. HOWEVER, there is still significant miscommunication about the disease and complacency still exists in the lifestyle and hygiene choices we make.
The Caleb Thorburn Foundation Inc is committed to empowering people with accurate information to assist identification and diagnosis of the disease and to encourage all sections of the community to employ smart and easy choices to ensure this killer disease does not claim the life of someone you love.
For the continued commitment of meningococcal disease education within the community and importantly contributing to the trials and studies that are currently underway for strain B vaccinations, The Caleb Thorburn Foundation Inc seeks your support to assist in our endeavours with meningococcal disease within Australia and particularly in Victoria, where we are the only foundation operating to provide a support base to victims of this disease and their families.
As we are endorsed as a deductible gift recipient all donations over $2 are tax deductible. If you are able to assist in any way please contact us.
We, the members of The Caleb Thorburn Foundation, have all been directly or by association, affected by this disease. We owe it to other families, and especially to our son Caleb, to make sure they don’t experience the killer we know meningococcal to be.
