THE LORD MAYOR'S CHARITABLE FOUNDATION
Another very significant development for TCTF was the provision of a grant from The Lords Mayor's Charitable Foundation.  To be recognised, endorsed and financially supported by this amazing organisation is an absolute honour.

PREGNANCY, BABIES AND CHILDREN'S EXPO
Recently we exhibited at the Pregnancy, Babies and Children’s Expo which was held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.  It was a three day event and was an invaluable vehicle for connecting with our most important risk group.  The expo was very well attended by the community and we were able to reach many with our message.  A highly worthwhile experience.  A hearty thanks to everyone who helped.

TRIVIA NIGHT – MARCH 2009
When we embarked on our March trivia night event, we queried whether the community had more to give in light of the response to the bushfires.  Once more, the Foundation was overwhelmed by the support of the many that attended with a healthy appetite for fun and a deep wallet! Through the commitment and hard work of the social committee and a firm desire to ensure our inaugural trivia night did not disappoint, TCTF supplied tempting raffle and auction prizes and a night full of entertainment and fun. The event was a tremendous success with close to twenty thousand dollars raised for the Foundation. This result would not have been possible without the collective support of our committee, the enthusiastic and generous crowd and the many businesses and people who contributed stock and time to ensure the event was a success. The trivia night will be repeated in 2010 with the intention of making it bigger and better!  Stay tuned for more details.

FRIENDS OF THE FOUNDATION – PEOPLE
The Caleb Thorburn Foundation Welcomes Dr Jim Buttery
The Caleb Thorburn Foundation are delighted to have the support and endorsement of Dr Jim Buttery. Dr Buttery has a wealth of expertise in infectious disease and works both for 'The Royal Childrens Hospital' and 'The Murdoch Childrens Research Institute'. It is a priviledge to have someone of Dr Buttery's calibre to provide medical support to our foundation. Thanks Jim.

"The meningococcal C vaccine has been a major step forward, but the most common cause of meningococcal disease, menB, remains a major cause of meningitis and sepsis, and we must remain vigilant as health professionals and parents." Dr Jim Buttery

Brendan Fevola Supports TCTF
Brendan Fevola continues to assist The Caleb Thorburn Foundation through raising awareness, financial contribution and profiling our organisation.

He and his family have always offered, without hesitation, to support our initiatives. They recognise that TCTF is a small charity in a tough industry. Furthermore they seek nothing in return for their support. Their help is deeply appreciated and we value the Fevola’s genuine commitment to our organisation.

We extend Brendan and Alex our congratulations on the recent birth of their daughter Lou Lou. Furthermore we wish a wonderful 2010 to the Fevola family, professionally and personally in Brisbane.

(Proceeds from their featured New Idea article (1.02.2010) were donated to TCTF)

NANOVIC PROMOSING RAPID DIAGNOSTIC FOR MENINGOCOCCAL DISEASE
NanoVic has been a wonderful supporter of The Caleb Thorburn Foundation Inc. They recently joined us at our official launch to cross promote their exciting diagnostic device and the meningocccal DVD ‘5 Minutes to Save a Life’ which they financially supported.

Nanotechnology Victoria Ltd. (NanoVic) is a State Government funded organisation, with a focus on exploiting the benefits offered by nanotechnology, to develop new and improved commercial products.

One product currently under development is a rapid, point-of-care diagnostic test for meningococcal disease. The aim of the test is to enable early recognition of the disease, with test results taking less than 15 minutes, thus prompting early treatment with antibiotics.

A major factor for early diagnosis, is the recognition of disease symptoms. As the early symptoms of meningococcal disease can be easily mistaken for other ailments such as influenza or viral infections, it is important for parents, healthcare workers, doctors and the general public to have access to clear, accurate information which explains what those early symptoms are.  This was the motivation for the production of the “5 Minutes to Save a Life” DVD.
